1 in 5 of the UK population live below the poverty line. It’s a shocking statistic. And at a time of year when we take for granted the comforts we have, and get a little carried away with spending unnecessarily, it’s good to sit back and have a think about how we can help those who aren’t as fortunate.
Foodbanks across the nation are run entirely by volunteers, and are a critical emergency source of food for those in need - not just at Christmas but all through the year. Donating money to the St Austell foodbank, rather than food, allows the volunteers to buy the specific things they’re short of, at times when food donations are less abundant. We also donated much needed food items to a foodbank in Bury St Edmunds and a social supermarket, Lucie’s Pantry in Manchester.
